Wake and Shake

This morning at 7:18 I was shaken out of bed. At first I was so out of it that I thought Darren was jumping on the bed. Then I realized that the entire bedroom was shaking. It was an earthquake! It was actually in Wells, Nevada which is about 90 miles away. It was a 6.3 on the scale. We didn't have any damage to the townhouse or to the new house.

The following is an attachment to an article that appeared on CNN regarding the earthquake.

This is the second time in my 32 years that I have been awaken to an earthquake.

Update on the House

Well things are moving along quickly with the house.

It seems like overnight the exterior has changed. We now have windows and doors. Stucco Bob's team has started to work on the Dryvet. There is scaffolding surrounding the house and they have started the scratch coat. The color will be applied some time in the next week. Then they will be adding the stone.

The inside is changing each day too. The drywall is up and the texture has been added to the walls and ceilings. Now we need to just decide on the wall and the trim color. The only color that we are sure about is the color for the nursery. The rest of the house I have no idea. It would be easier if we had everything (cabinets, floors, tile, etc) in place so we could see how it all would look together. So far we have tested
eight quarts of paint but none seem to be right. The guy working at the paint store said that the record is 54. I am hoping we don't have to try that many colors.

The closet doors and organizers were installed today. The master closet is huge. I mean huge! When we met with the carpenter to discuss where we wanted bars and shelving in the closet he joked that it was the size of a bedroom!

The master bath is coming together. The shower is huge. We tested and we will both fit in the shower ;) but only one at a time in the tub ;(

The tub is nice though. I am waiting patiently for my first bath. Every time I look at our tiny tub in the townhouse I just wish that it had jets and was 12" deeper. Soon. The electrician has wired the bathroom for TV. Now anyone who really knows me knows that I will probably be
living in the bathroom. 5 hour baths here I come. I will just put the pack n play in there for the baby!

We picked out our cabinets. We knew that we wanted mission/shaker style cabinets ever since we thought about building when we lived in Vermont. The kitchen and fireplace niche will be natural maple with chocolate glaze. The island in the kitchen will be black sandthru bead board. The bathrooms are also maple but they have a different stain. I love that the kitchen cabinets are varied in height and depth. The following is the layout for the kitchen cabinets. It does not include the crown molding but it will give you a good idea.

Well that is it for now. We will try to
continue to update about once a week.

Best to all!

Confirmation... It's a boy!

Today we had our detailed sonogram. Everything looks good and he is developing well.

He is in the 60% range for weight so he is slightly bigger than average for 22 1/2 weeks. I wouldn't mind if he stayed in the 50-60% range. Especially if I don't have a c-section and have to go the traditional pushing route.

We were able to see all four chambers of the heart. It was really cool because you could see the heart beat as well as the blood was colored red/blue to show the in/out flow. It was so amazing.

His face was hard to see because he kept putting his arms and legs in the way. After a bit of prodding we did get a good look and could see the entire face. The technician zoomed in on the lips and nose to make sure he didn't have a cleft palette.

There was a bit of a scare regarding the gender. He was not cooperating and kept his legs crossed. The technician was pushing and shaking trying to get him to cooperate. Then she said she thought it might be a girl. I almost sat straight up on the table as I looked at her in shock. She wiggled the wand a little bit more and confirmed that it was in fact a boy. Once she pointed "it" out there was no denying that it was definitely a boy.

I want to send a huge shout out to Ptoshia. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I have been suffering with sciatic nerve pain since Friday night. Yesterday at work she gave me a tip that if you put an ice pack on your lower back the baby will move away from the cold. What a lifesaver. I finally have some relief. It is still bothering me but I am not in constant pain and I didn't wake up with any shooting pain in my legs last night.
